In his research, Joris Spigt combines systematic philosophy with his interest in the history of philosophy. In his dissertation, he argued that for Hegel, skepticism in its most significant form is a structural, recurring element of philosophical reflection. His current project explores the idea that self-knowledge is fundamentally ethical knowledge.
His research focuses on Hegel, skepticism, ancient philosophy, Kierkegaard, and phenomenology (especially Husserl, Heidegger, Patočka).
