Abstract

I completed my Master's degree (Magister) in philosophy, sociology and literature at the University of Bielefeld. After obtaining my doctorate in philosophy at the University of Potsdam and a stay at the University of London, I worked in Philosophy at Leuphana University Lüneburg. I completed the habilitation process there in 2019 and my habilitation thesis was under the title Die Macht der Affekte. Spinoza's Theory of Immanent Individuation by Meiner (Hamburg) in 2020. After a year at the Collaborative Research Center 1285 at TU Dresden, deputy professorships at Düsseldorf, Frankfurt/Main and Frankfurt/Oder I have been working as a Lecturer at the Institute for Philosophy at Leipzig University since April 2021.

Historically, my research focuses on the early modern period (Spinoza, Descartes, Hobbes) and the philosophy of the 19th to 21st centuries (Nietzsche, Marx, Foucault, Deleuze, Husserl, Merleau-Ponty, Levinas, Butler and others). Systematically, the focus is on questions of social philosophy, political philosophy, cultural philosophy and ethics in connection with metaphysical (ontological) foundations.

In teaching, my aim is to give students a deep understanding of systematic problems in philosophy and to enable them to bring non-philosophical questions into philosophical perspectives. First and foremost, I work on classical texts in the history of philosophy and engage with significant interpretations and commentaries. In teaching the tradition, I follow the principle that every old philosophy is a new philosophy for someone and that only an examination of the history of philosophy leads to an understanding of current philosophical problems. The aim is less to follow a strict canonisation or orthodox interpretations, but rather to make the genealogies of philosophical thought understandable and to show its continuities as well as its turning points. In addition to this historical-critical orientation, it is important for me, especially in teaching, to repeatedly refer to current (ecological, cultural, social, political) debates and problems and to classify them philosophically.

    At the University of Leipzig, I teach in the various modules on practical philosophy, theoretical philosophy and history of philosophy of the BA, MA Philosophy and teacher training programmes. My focus is on political philosophy and social philosophy philosophy in connection with metaphysics and ethics.
