Habilitation

Habilitation Committees (§ 2)

For the carrying out of an individual habilitation process, the faculty council appoints a habilitation committee. The final decision in all habilitation matters lies with the faculty council.

Regarding the Application (§5)

The opening of the process requires a written application along with the intended degree and of the chosen subject area which is sent to the faculty’s dean. The habilitation regulations conveys which documents are to be included with the application.

Opening (§8)

After the inspection of the application and its completeness, the extended faculty council will, upon recommendation of the habilitation committee, open the process and appoint the evaluators.

Evaluators (§9)

In principle, the habilitation thesis or the written habilitation work (cumulative habilitation) is to be assessed by three university lecturers, two of whom may be members of the University of Leipzig, two evaluators must represent the subject to which the habilitation corresponds.
 

Acceptance of the Written Habilitation Examination (§11)

Once the assessments have been received, they will be made available to the members of the habilitation committee and the university lecturers of the faculty for inspection or voting in the dean's office for a period of two weeks, together with a copy of the written habilitation work and theses.

The habilitation committee will advise the faculty council whether or not it should accept or decline the written habilitation work on the basis of the assessment and decide on the list of topics for the lectures according to §12 of the habilitation regulations.

Lectures with Discourse Character (§12)

The lecture should take place two to four weeks after the acceptance of the written habilitation work and should not last longer than 90 minutes.

Academic Presentation with Subsequent Colloquium (§13)

The academic presentation usually takes place within four weeks after the acceptance of the lecture during the lecture period.  It should take no longer than 30 minutes and the subsequent colloquium should not take longer than 60 minutes.

Bestowal (§14)

After completing all work in the habilitation process, the faculty council will vote on whether or not to bestow the academic degree doctor habilitatus for the license to teach in the subject area recommended by the habilitation committee. The bestowal decision will be conveyed to the candidate in writing.
